This is a picture of what happens when too many seeds are sprinkled in a small pot. “Nothing bad happens” You just get a whole bunch of seedlings that keep growing till you are ready to plant them. These seeds were put in around the middle of February. Very slow growing but they will be ready to plant in the garden by May 15th or there abouts. When I’m ready to plant I’ll pop the whole plug out and lay it on the ground. Then I’ll separate the largest plants and plant them individually. Usually two or three to a spot. This will insure that I get at least one plant per space. Most likely they will all take and I just cut the smallest ones down. I go down the row till I get to the smallest seedlings. I plant them as plugs. Upwards to 10 plants per plug. A few of these will grow to a foot or so then I take the knife to the smaller ones and let a few of the larger ones go till one stands out. Then the bigger knife comes out. Out go all but the winner. It’s like that Derwood guy said or was it Darwin? I don’t know but anyhow it’s survival of the fittest.
